1950's maternity dress

I've been sorting through books as part of a de-cluttering process. I was looking through a book published in 1952, entitled "Nurse's Handbook of Obstetrics"--something I picked up at a library book sale. I came across this drawing of maternity dress patterns. Um, those women look spectacularly NOT pregnant...

The one on the left I kind of get - it looks like the waist of the skirt unsnaps/unbuttons to get larger and larger. I'm quite confused about the one on the right, though!

Must be a design for the very first month of pregnancy. Hilarious!

Hmmm, I kind of like the look of them for NOT being pregnant. I wonder if they could hide a kinda-sorta belly if not a full 9-months pregnant belly. :)

These are lovely! They look classy and I believe that many mothers would feel lovely in them... whether they are expecting or not. I think that Lucille Ball wore these kinds of clothing. Do you know if any of the patterns are still available for purchase?

Hello Mahani,

Sorry, I don't know anything about finding the patterns. The pattern numbers are under the picture, though, maybe you could google them?
